Powertrains and Performance

We looked at everything that made the proven, available Duramax 6.6L Turbo-Diesel V8 engine great, then we made it even better:

• 397 horses and 765 lb.-ft. of torque – the most powerful heavy-duty ever made, more maximum hp and torque than any competitor
• 17,800 lbs. of maximum towing – more than Ford F-250 or Ram 2500
• More than 11% improvement in highway fuel economy(7) over the previous generation

The suspension has been completely redesigned with bigger, stronger components engineered to handle bigger loads and improve ride quality over the previous generation.

Safety

Silverado 2500HD offers the available, durable heavy-duty Allison® six-speed transmission, plus a number of other components that will make towing or hauling a heavy load much easier for you:

• New exhaust brake system
• StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control System – something Ram doesn’t offer
• Trailer Sway Control
• Hill Start Assist
• Auto grade braking
• Bigger, stronger brakes with Intelligent Brake Assist
• Available integrated trailer brake controller

There is also a new exhaust brake system included with the available Duramax Diesel, uses the technology of a variable vane geometry turbo to create back pressure to slow the vehicle down. That means reduced brake fade, prolonged brake life and more confidence on steep grades.

Interior Design and Special Features

Everyone needs a place where they feel comfortable, which is why the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD comes with:

• Heated, leather-appointed front bucket seats with dual-density foam on LTZ
• Driver Information Center displays engine hours, fuel range, fuel used, transmission temperature and more
• Dual glove boxes (WT and LT) provide nearly 9 liters of combined cargo space
• Cavernous storage areas for front-seat passenger, including lockable underseat storage space on LT
